New law effective 1 October 2025

These regulations take effect on 1 October 2025

On 1 October 2025, a new law on unemployment benefits will come into force. Employers will benefit from the removal of lengthy and complex hourly and wage reporting requirements, as the unemployment insurance fund (a-kassa) will be able to retrieve income details directly from the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket). However, employers will still need to certify certain details related to the employment itself.

Information employers need to certify

  • Employer’s name and organisation number
  • Employment period
  • Reason for termination of employment
  • Details of continued employment and its scope
  • Information on leave of absence
  • Agreement on severance pay
