We are Sweden's largest unemployment fund, with more than 780,000 members across all professions, industries, and sectors. Both entrepreneurs and employees are part of our organization. Our goal is to contribute to a society where everyone has the opportunity to build a long, secure, and fulfilling working life.
Our office is located in Stockholm, and we have 140 employees—most of whom work with processing unemployment claims.
Our core values are based on the government’s ethical framework and our own key principles: right, efficient, and respectful. We take pride in making a difference in people's lives and always keeping our members at the center of what we do.
We aim to contribute to a well-functioning social security system that promotes individual freedom, a flexible labor market, and an equitable society.
We are a non-political, non-profit organization. Akademikernas a-kassa operates under governmental authority, and our work is regulated by the Unemployment Insurance Act and the Unemployment Funds Act. The unemployment fund is led by a managing director, appointed by the board of directors, who in turn are elected by the general meeting of members.
FROM OUR MANAGING DIRECTOR
The work we do at Akademikernas a-kassa is meant to create value for both our members and society at large. The unemployment fund provides a buffer for individuals and employers during times of change.
Every day, we face members’ worries—most often about the possibility of losing their jobs. Sometimes, they worry about not being able to continue working due to health or other reasons. The anxiety caused by a layoff can be almost as difficult as the loss of income. That’s why we not only provide financial support, but also work to inform, guide, and, when needed, simply listen and show compassion.
Decisions need to be communicated swiftly to avoid unnecessary concern. Short lead times are crucial because unemployed individuals really need their money. If someone is not entitled to benefits, they should be informed even faster!
The unemployment fund plays an important role when people or the labor market need, or are forced, to undergo changes. That’s why we work every day to ensure our members are satisfied and that more people join the fund.
